Once every two months a team from the eye clinic is flown by helicopter to rural areas to reach patients that cannot access the eye clinic themselves. During these visits we provide people with reading glasses and screen them for cataract. Those people diagnosed with cataract are brought to the eye clinic for surgery.
This helicopter service is donated by the South African organisation Mercy Air.
Doctors for life
Ebenezer is a primary health clinic located about 25-30 minutes drive from Good Shepherd Hospital (GSH). The clinic is managed by Precious, a former teacher who has put money and time into developing it. Health care is provided by nursing staff and medical students from the GSH that often come and work here during their elective. The clinic provides walk-in primary health care, an ART clinic, and prenatal care. Blood tests are available, which are taken on Monday and Wednesday mornings and processed at Good Shepherd.
