Allergy of the eyes

Picture
Typical complaints of allergy of the eyes are painful, itchy and red eyes. It is a common condition in children until the age of 18 and it is more common in boys than in girls. The allergy can be caused by many different allergens, most commonly pollen from plants and trees. Pollen are mostly in the air in spring and summer, therefore this is the period that children have most severe complaints.
You can help your child by avoiding sun (wear sunglasses), dust and wind in the eyes. You can also give your child a cold cloth/compress to put on the eyes for 10 minutes when the eyes are very itchy. The Good Shepherd Eye Clinic is equipped to treat this condition. We will prescribe eye drops, which will relieve the itchiness and pain.
